NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has released new surveillance video showing two suspects wanted in connection with a recent slashing incident in Queens, urging the public to assist in their identification. The violent assault occurred late last month, sparking concerns about public safety in several neighborhoods.

The incident took place on January 28, 2026, at approximately 9:30 PM, near the intersection of Cross Bay Boulevard and Lindenwood Road, an area bustling with evening commuters and local shoppers. The victim, a 34-year-old man, sustained a deep laceration to his face and neck.

Incident Details and Suspect Descriptions

According to an NYPD press release, the victim was walking northbound on Cross Bay Boulevard when he was approached by two unknown individuals. A verbal dispute quickly escalated, resulting in one suspect using a sharp object to slash the victim before both fled the scene on foot.

"We are actively pursuing all leads and believe the public's help can be crucial in apprehending these individuals," stated Detective Lieutenant Marcus Thorne of the 106th Precinct, during a public appeal yesterday. The victim was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

Surveillance Footage Released

The newly released video footage, obtained from a nearby deli's security camera, shows the two suspects walking west on Lindenwood Road moments before the attack. One suspect is described as a male, approximately 5'9" tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The second suspect is described as a male, slightly taller, with a distinct tattoo on his right forearm, wearing a light-colored jacket. The NYPD is asking anyone who recognizes the individuals or has information about the incident to come forward immediately.

Community Concerns and Increased Patrols

Residents in the Howard Beach and Ozone Park areas, through which Cross Bay Boulevard runs, have expressed heightened concerns about local crime trends. In response, the NYPD has increased uniformed patrols in commercial and residential zones along the boulevard, particularly during evening hours.

Local community boards are also collaborating with precinct commanders to discuss crime prevention strategies and encourage community vigilance. "Public safety is our top priority," affirmed Council Member Eric Ulrich, representing a significant portion of the area, at a recent community meeting.

Seeking Public Assistance for Apprehension

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of community partnership in solving such violent crimes. Information can be provided anonymously through the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or through their website and social media channels. Rewards are available for information leading to arrests and indictments.

The police remind residents to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity. The rapid release of this video aims to expedite the identification process and bring the perpetrators to justice, improving safety for all Queens residents. The incident follows other public safety concerns in the area, including a 60-year-old cyclist dying on Cross Bay Boulevard, underscoring the need for continued vigilance.

How can residents contribute to local crime prevention efforts?

Residents can significantly contribute to local crime prevention by reporting suspicious activities to the NYPD immediately, either by calling 911 for emergencies or the non-emergency line for other concerns. Joining neighborhood watch programs, attending local precinct community council meetings, and sharing information through established police channels are also effective ways to help. Installing quality security cameras and ensuring adequate outdoor lighting around homes and businesses can deter criminal activity. The NYPD also encourages participation in their Crime Stoppers program for anonymous tips.
